Generalist practice is a universal approach to social work that stresses the ability of social workers to assist individuals, families, and communities at all intervention levels (Berg-Weger 5). In this approach, there are three levels of intervention such as micro, mezzo, and macro-levels of intervention. In other words, the micro-level of intervention focuses on directly working with families and individuals by providing counseling, and support services that address challenges and personal issues. It aims to improve individual well-being by assisting them in navigating their current situations.

On the other hand, the mezzo level of intervention involves working with organizations or small groups within the community. Its main goal is to address issues collectively affecting many people or families through support groups or family therapy (Berg-Weger 13). However, its main goal is to reinforce interpersonal relationships and establish social support networks. Meanwhile, macro-level intervention involves addressing policies and systemic issues that affect the general community. It includes policy assessment, advocacy, and community development among others. However, its main aim is to establish a long-term change by addressing the root cause of social problems experienced by communities.

In my future plans as a social worker, I see myself actively engaging in micro and mezzo –level of interventions for several reasons. Firstly, I am passionate about offering direct assistance to people and their families to overcome specific challenges and support their well-being. My engagements will involve creating care plans, offering counseling services, and linking clients with necessary resources. In addition, I am interested in working in conjunction with small groups and organizations within various communities to assist in addressing issues affecting them in a collective way such as conducting family therapy sessions.

During the internship program, my expectation is to be exposed to several intervention levels. However, I anticipate that the emphasis will be more on the micro and mezzo-level work during the program. This will play a significant role in helping me gain valuable skills and opportunities to advance my knowledge in working directly with individual clients and small groups of people.
